Ancestor Worship is Idolatry

“Ancestor worship involves religious beliefs & practices consisting of prayers & offerings to the spirits of the deceased. Ancestor worship is practiced in many cultures. It’s believed the spirits of ancestors live on in the natural world & are thus able to influence the futures & fortunes of the living relatives. Ancestors’ spirits are also thought to act as mediators between the living & the Creator. However, this contradicts scripture. The Bible tells us that the spirits of the dead go to either heaven or hell & do not remain in the natural world (Luke 16:20-31; Heb. 9:27). The Bible doesn’t mention the dead act as intermediaries between God & man. That is the role of the Lord & God Jesus Christ. There is only one Mediator between God & man, & that is God’s Son, Jesus Christ (1 Timothy 2:5-6). Moreover, the Bible reads ‘Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, & him only shalt though serve’ (Luke 4:8), & to not contact the dead (Lev. 20:6). Satan always tries to avert worship from the true living God with idolatry.”

In John L. Nevius’ book Demon Possession, he recounts how ancestor worship in China seems to have made many Chinese readily subject to demonization. He spent many years in China as a missionary in the 1800s.

If you don’t know Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior, you can receive Him into your heart, and He can deliver you from darkness and sin and have your name written in His Book of Life.

If you are sincere, you can say this simple prayer to the Father (it doesn’t have to be word for word):

“God, I recognize that I have not lived my life for You up until now. I have been living for myself and that is wrong. Please forgive me of all of my sins, just as I forgive others. I need You in my life; I want You in my life. I acknowledge the completed work of Your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ in giving His life for me on the cross, I believe in my heart Jesus is Lord and was raised from the dead and I long to receive the forgiveness you have made freely available to me through this sacrifice. Come into my life now, Lord. Take up residence in my heart and be my king, my Lord, and my Savior. From this day forward, I will no longer be controlled by sin, or the desire to please myself, but I will follow You all the days of my life. Those days are in Your hands. I ask this in the Lord and GOD Jesus’ precious and holy name. Amen.”

What the woman doing wasn’t ancestor worship, in fact east asians don’t worship their ancestors. It’s a misconception and in no way they were worshiping their ancestors. They were praying for their ancestors. What you’re doing is an attempt to destroy cultures. Cultures and societies without abrahamic religion is relatively peaceful and beautiful. Bring your false cult back to your church.
